Introduction
Create. Connect. Inspire.

Karla’s practice centers on honoring Black identity and the brilliance of the diaspora, with a particular devotion to Black womanhood, Caribbean & Southern cultural memory. Her pieces serve as contemporary visual archives, shaped by research, lived experience, memory, and community storytelling. From juke joints and local legends to the unspoken histories in the Caribbean.

Her early fascination with the Renaissance masters sharpened her eye but revealed an absence: the exclusion of Black bodies, Black beauty, and Black sovereignty. Rather than replicate those traditions, she dismantles and reframes them, infusing classical composition with chromatic dual-lighting, exaggerated perspective, and the vivid emotional architecture of Black joy and resilience.

Her originals, studies, and sketches explore the early sparks of narrative: instinctive strokes, elongated gestures, warped checkered floors, and movement that feels almost musical. Each work invites the viewer into the quiet interior spaces where image becomes meaning.

Karla’s art occupies the space between elegance and defiance. A counter-hegemonic love letter to the communities that raised her and the stories she now protects.

In every piece, she reimagines beauty not as imitation but as liberation: expansive, luxurious, and deeply rooted in the truth of her people.

Her paintings do more than depict.
They testify.
They remember.
They illuminate.
